PRESS RELEASE: JOINT STATEMENT FROM CHUA CHU KANG TOWN COUNCIL AND MS SERENE THAM

Ms Serene Tham had checked and acknowledged that there was indeed no replacement of railings and admitted her mistakes in stating otherwise in her letter to TRS. She had assumed that this was so after she was informed by the loss adjustor that the Town Council GM had told the latter that the Town Council will be considering replacing the railings as a future improvement work. Ms Serene Tham wishes to apologise to all parties concerned for this mistake and all the distress caused to all parties.

The Town Council understands that Ms Tham had tried to contact the loss adjuster but he was uncontactable for two weeks as he was overseas. She then tried to contact the insurer and realized that the insurer’s DID was erroneous. The Town Council acknowledges that there was a typo error in the DID and apologises to Ms Tham for the inconveniences caused her. In this respect, the Town Council will work to improve its communication efforts in future.

The Town Council empathises with her frustration over the claims process. Thus, Mr Zaqy has offered to facilitate and expedite the claim process for Ms Tham so that her claims can be resolved as soon as possible. They wish Ms Tham and her family well.

Ms Serene Tham also wishes to withdraw and apologise for all negative remarks that were made about Mr Zaqy Mohamad and the Town Council in her 13 July letter to TRS. She will be writing to the editor of TRS to remove her 13 July letter from the post in TRS.

The woman who wrote to sociopolitical website The Real Singapore (TRS) with false allegations about the Chua Chu Kang Town Council and its MP Zaqy Mohamad has apologised for her remarks and is withdrawing them.

Ms Serene Tham, whose age and occupation cannot be established yet, made her apology in a statement she issued with the town council on Friday.

Ms Tham had suffered injuries after she fell on a staircase at Block 293, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, in May. She wrote to TRS twice complaining about the town council’s handling of her case.

In her second letter, published by TRS on July 13, Ms Tham alleged the town council had replaced the staircase railing, which she said contradicted a claim allegedly made by Mr Zaqy that there were no issues with it.

Mr Zaqy subsequently took TRS to task for publishing this second letter as he said it contained false information.

Friday’s joint statement read: “Ms Serene Tham had checked and acknowledged that there was indeed no replacement of railings and admitted her mistakes in stating otherwise in her letter to TRS.”

It said Ms Tham, who is pursuing an insurance claim for the incident, had assumed the railings were replaced as the town council had told the loss adjustor that it is considering replacing the railings in the future.

The statement added that the town council will also work to improve its communication efforts, as it had made a typo error when passing the contact number of the insurer to Ms Tham.

It said Ms Tham will be writing to the editor of TRS to remove her July 13 letter.

Comments :

  • PAP and opposition aside, TRS is known for its lousy and fake news. It is used primarily to incite hatred and there are rumours the site is run by Australians. And I thought those who voted for opposition is saying FT sucks? And there, they are believing every single word FT is saying. Sound like they are a bunch of fools.
