Former Workers’ Party candidate quits

“Mr Sajeev Kamalasanan, 42, a former Nee Soon GRC candidate, e-mailed his resignation letter last night to WP secretary-general Low Thia Khiang and chairman Sylvia Lim.

He cited his disappointment that WP had not made him a cadre despite his ‘substantial’
contributions.

‘I am disappointed that the party has not been able to formally recognise my contributions, and
going forward, I see little way in me playing a meaningful and constructive part within the
party,’ he said in a letter sent to the press.

His resignation comes as the WP is girding itself for battle in the Hougang by-election….

Mr Sajeev is the fourth candidate to have left the party since last May’s polls. In February, the WP
expelled former Hougang MP Yaw Shin Leong, 35. That same month, former East Coast GRC
candidate Mohamed Fazli Talip, 30, quit, citing ‘personal reasons and work commitments’. His
GRC teammate, WP veteran Eric Tan, 56, resigned last year.
